At St. Mark's Dingley we value and promote healthy living. As such, we are part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. We hope to instil in the children at St. Mark's positive food habits for life. The program's mantra is to 'grow, harvest, prepare, share'. We have a kitchen garden with six garden beds as well as a variety of fruit trees within our school grounds. We plant seasonal vegetables in our garden and then harvest these before preparing them in the kitchen to then share as a meal together. We promote healthy eating and seasonality. The year 3/4 children have a one hour garden class each week for seven weeks and this is followed by a kitchen class where we prepare a bread, a dip, a salad and a vegetarian main meal. We then share this delicious meal together. At St. Mark's we also have our own mini mantra which is: "you MUST try everything but if you don't like it, that's ok as long as you try it."
