Dear Parents,

It is only three weeks until the St. Mark’s Athletics Carnival. I know the children are getting very excited for the big event and they have been training hard for this occasion. Years 3-6 children will be competing between all day. They will be performing 800m, field events and relays between 9am-11am then their sprint events from 11:50- 12:40pm, followed by a field event rotation, then another field event after lunch. At 3pm they will be finishing with the Year 6 Championship sprint. The Years P-2 children will be participating after snack between 12:30-1pm with the sprint events. They will then be performing in the hurdle relay from 2pm, then finishing with the baton relay.

This event is a compulsory school event and all children are expected to be at school for their normal start time. Parents are most welcome to stay in the school grounds for snack and lunch during the breaks.

The carnivals date has been moved to Term 3 to assist us in our preparation for the District Athletics.

The children will be sitting on the grassed area (tarps) on the inside of the track and parents will be able to sit on the outside of the track. The teachers and parents who are helping will supervise the children on the day. The children will require drink bottles for during the carnival.  The children will need to be responsible for their own things, as parents will not be allowed onto the track or house areas during the carnival time.

It is very important all children wear their correct school sports uniform with their house coloured t-shirt. They may bring along streamers and banners to help support their team.

To help the sessions run smoothly I need the assistance of quite a few parents. If you are available on this day, it would be greatly appreciated. Can you please email myself at vsnell@smdingley.catholic.edu.au if you are available? Please indicate the times you are available and your preference in roles.(eg. Only 11:40-1pm for sprints- judge. Or maybe able to assist with field events at some stage in the day. Or perhaps you are available to assist with set up of marquees at 7.30am in the morning/ or packing them up at 3.30pm in the afternoon.

If you are able to assist in any capacity for the day it would be fantastic to have replies in by Friday 15th so I’m able to allocate jobs early (I’m off to the National X-Country Championships in Albany W.A. from August 21 to 27th, therefore wanting to have it prepared before departure).

I am really looking forward to the carnival and hope to see a great crowd and some sunshine.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact me.
